Supporting Mission Working Dogs in September

Mission Working Dogs Community Outreach

For our next month of Community Outreach, we are excited to partner with Mission Working Dogs for the first time!

More About Mission Working Dogs

Mission Working Dogs is a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of people living with disabilities by providing them with highly trained working dogs. The organization trains purpose-bred service dogs, therapy dogs, and facility therapy dogs to promote greater independence, well-being, comfort, and community connection.

The organization is based in Oxford, Maine, where it operates a 12-acre training campus. Mission Working Dogs relies heavily on volunteers, including puppy raisers and handlers, to help socialize and train the dogs.

You can learn about their programs and how to apply for a service dog on the Mission Working Dogs website.

September is National Service Dog Month

Did you know that September is National Service Dog Month? This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate and recognize the life-changing work of service dogs and the people they support. It’s also a great time to educate the public about the important roles these specially trained animals play in our communities.

Service dogs can assist individuals with a wide range of disabilities and needs. Each dog receives specialized training to perform specific tasks, such as assisting people with vision loss, providing mobility support, retrieving items, or helping individuals living with PTSD.

While service dogs, emotional support animals, and pets can all have an important place in people’s lives, they serve different purposes. Service dogs are specifically trained to perform tasks related to a person’s disability and have distinct legal protections and access rights.

GraniteLeaf Will Match Donations!

At GraniteLeaf, we’ve seen firsthand the positive impact service dogs can have on the lives of some of our patients. We’ve also seen how difficult it can be for individuals to overcome the challenges associated with obtaining a service dog. That’s why organizations like Mission Working Dogs are so important to our community.

Mission Working Dogs works to improve the lives of people with disabilities by providing specially trained working dogs and the support that comes with them. We feel honored by the opportunity to partner with them and help make a difference in the lives of the people—and dogs—they serve.

Help us give back this September! Throughout the month, you can make a cash donation to Mission Working Dogs at the collection boxes inside our dispensaries. At the end of the month, GraniteLeaf Cannabis will match donations up to $2,000.

Together, we can help support the incredible work of Mission Working Dogs and the life-changing bond between working dogs and the people who rely on them.

Join us this September and help us make a difference!
