Last week, Gov. Kelly Ayotte vetoed SB 468. This modest, bipartisan bill would allow GraniteLeaf and the other New Hampshire ATCs to cultivate in secure greenhouses. The goal is simple: we want to reduce production costs so we will be able to reduce prices for patients.
Currently, N.H. ATCs are only permitted to grow indoors, which requires high-intensity lighting and a tremendous amount of electricity. This restriction puts us at a huge disadvantage in relation to cannabis companies in neighboring states, where greenhouse (and outdoor) cultivation methods are commonly practiced and are not considered controversial.
The good news is that all vetoed bills return to the legislature for a final vote. If more than two-thirds of the House and Senate vote to override the veto, SB 468 will become law.
We hope you will consider writing and/or calling your state representatives and especially your state senator. They need to hear that the public overwhelmingly supports the Therapeutic Cannabis Program, and that we all want lower prices for New Hampshire patients. If you contact your legislators, please be polite and respectful. A very large majority of them already voted for SB 468 earlier this year, so we are merely asking them to vote for it one additional time!
