Supporting Sensible Cannabis Policies in April!

Total donation of $2,694.00 to Marijuana Policy Project during our April Community Outreach

In April, we will be raising money to support our allies at the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP). This national non-profit organization led the effort to pass New Hampshire’s therapeutic cannabis law in 2013. Today, MPP is continuing to lead the battle for sensible legalization and other important reforms. For example, they are fighting to ensure that patients will not be subjected to “sin” taxes when cannabis becomes legal.

We will donate $1 to MPP for each vape cartridge sold this month. Visit our menu if you’d like to place an order!

Impressive Record of Accomplishment

MPP spearheaded the successful efforts to legalize cannabis in every other New England state, and it is only a matter of time before their work results in legalization for the “Live Free or Die” state. In addition to therapeutic cannabis and legalization, MPP has also been instrumental in advocating for the following reforms:

  • Decriminalization: in 2017, N.H. reduced the penalty for possessing up to 3/4 ounce of cannabis from a misdemeanor to a violation. MPP led the fight for this important reform, along with ACLU-NH, attorney Paul Twomey, the late Rep. Renny Cushing, and others.
  • Annulment/resentencing: MPP is currently advocating for HB 1539, which would automatically annul records for violation and possession-level cannabis offenses, while creating a state-initiated process to consider annulment and re-sentencing for all other cannabis offenses. This bill recently passed the N.H. House and will soon be considered by the state Senate.
  • Home cultivation: MPP has consistently supported bills allowing patients and adults to grow limited amounts of cannabis at home.

In addition to supporting these positive reforms, MPP has also helped defeat many bills that would have harmed patients.

GraniteLeaf’s government relations director, Matt Simon, was a full-time staffer with MPP for 10 years prior to joining our team. He continues to view MPP as the most effective organization working on cannabis policy in the United States.

“It’s hard to imagine where New Hampshire and the rest of New England would be today without MPP,” Simon explained. “Many people seem to take the victories of the last decade for granted, but the remarkable progress in our region would not have been possible without the hard work, professionalism, and dedication of MPP staff.”
