Azimuth Check Foundation (ACF) is a NH-based, all-volunteer non-profit that “helps heroes find their way by providing injured warriors challenging year-round athletic activities that create wellness in an atmosphere of camaraderie.” Based in New Hampshire, they sponsor and support athletic events throughout northern New England to benefit veterans, first responders, and medical personnel with disabilities.
ACF events include hiking, rock climbing, deep sea fishing, and their annual Patriot Throwdown workout challenge, which honors “the service and sacrifice of our fellow Americans during and post September 11, 2001.”
According to the organization’s website, financial contributions “will help us in many key ways, such as: securing indoor and outdoor event locations, providing amenities to event participants, renting or purchasing sporting equipment and adaptive sporting equipment, and reaching out to sponsors, participants, and partners.”
For our September Community Outreach Project, we will be collecting cash donations at both dispensaries throughout the month to support this worthy cause. GraniteLeaf will once again match all donations up to a total of $2K, so every dollar you donate will have twice the impact!
What Does “Azimuth Check” Mean?
In navigation, the term “azimuth check” means to stop, look at your compass, verify your location, and make sure you’re headed in the right direction.
In some branches of the military, the “azimuth check” concept has been extended to include physical fitness and overall well-being. For example, the U.S. Army has developed a self-assessment tool called The Azimuth Check that “measures Soldiers’ level of overall fitness across the five dimensions of personal readiness – physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and family – in order to promote self-awareness and growth.” Many veterans continue to use the term in the broader sense throughout their lives.
Sometimes it’s important for all of us to stop and do an azimuth check. We are grateful to Azimuth Check Foundation for providing these challenging activities for injured veterans, and we look forward to presenting them with a large GraniteLeaf check at the end of August!
