Are you looking for an opportunity to expand your knowledge about cannabis? This fall, we are offering a new Education Series with 6 different classes! These classes will all be hosted on Zoom and will occur every other Thursday at 5:00pm. Our patient educators, Alicia and Judy, will be leading the classes, and our in-house expert on infused products, Chantal, will help teach the How to Make Edibles class. This is a great opportunity to get more information about cannabis and the different ways it can be used therapeutically!
All the classes in this Education Series are open to patients, caregivers, and anyone interested in learning more. We ask that you please sign-up for the classes you wish to attend ahead of time. You can sign up by emailing us at [email protected], calling us at either location, or talking to a team member at the front desk of one of the dispensaries. Below, you will find the names of the classes with descriptions of the topics that will be covered.
Fall Education Series
History of Cannabis – October 5 @ 5pm
Have you ever wondered how cannabis was used in the past or why it was made illegal? This class will cover the long history of cannabis from its earliest appearance to its current place in society. Together, we will follow the story of this plant from the ancient past all the way to present-day legalization efforts. There is so much to learn about the history of cannabis!
The Cannabis Plant – October 19 @ 5pm
The cannabis plant is unique because of its incredible therapeutic properties and its many other uses. Cannabis has been one of the most cultivated plants throughout history, known for its medicinal applications, its nutritious seeds, and also for its fibers which can be used to make clothing, rope, paper, and building materials. In this class, we will focus on the plant itself to get a better understanding of why it is so useful. We will also cover the different types of cannabis, the parts of the plant, and its growing stages.
Using Cannabis Flower – November 2 @ 5pm
For all but the most experienced patients, this class will be a great way to learn more about the various ways you can benefit from the use of cannabis flower. If you’re new to cannabis flower or haven’t tried different methods of consumption, this class will introduce you to several options. We will cover the different ways to smoke and vaporize cannabis flower, and we will also share other ways you can use flower to make products at home such as edibles, tinctures, and topicals.
Common Cannabinoids – November 16 @ 5pm
Many people are familiar with THC and CBD, but few are aware of all the other compounds that are produced by the cannabis plant, known as “cannabinoids.” Cannabinoids such as THC and CBD, among others, are responsible for most of the effects we associate with cannabis products. The cannabis plant produces hundreds of cannabinoids, and this class will cover the most common ones that can be utilized for their therapeutic uses. You will learn more about how the plant produces cannabinoids, where they are found, and how they can help with various symptoms and conditions.
Terpenes in Cannabis – November 30 @ 5pm
Terpenes are the compounds in cannabis that are responsible for its aroma, and they also contribute to the effects and therapeutic benefits. Many other plants produce terpenes, and many of the ones found in cannabis are also found in fruits, flowers, and herbs. Lab tests indicate that around 13 terpenes appear somewhat regularly in our various cultivars, and you can always find out which terpenes are present by consulting our product labels. By learning more about the terpenes in cannabis, you can become better at predicting what cannabis cultivars or products may work best for your specific condition or symptoms.
How to Make Edibles – December 14 @ 5pm
Have you ever wanted to make your own cannabis edibles? Many patients prefer edibles over smoking or vaping, in part because the effects last much longer. Our menu includes chocolates, baked goods, fruit chews, drink mixes, and even honey, but we know that some patients prefer to make their own edibles, and we are happy to help! This class will cover how to make edibles using either flower, cannabis-infused oil, or other infused ingredients. Whether you are new to making edibles or experienced, you can learn more from this class. We will be joined by our in-house edibles expert, Chantal, who will share some tips and a few great recipes.
In addition to our Fall Education Series, we will continue hosting at least one patient support group meeting each month. You can always find the current schedule at our “Classes and Support Groups” page.
