How to Contact Senators Re: HB 1633

How to Contact Senators Tips and Talking Points GraniteLeaf Cannabis New Hampshire

Thanks to all who have contacted senators to express concerns about how the legalization bill (HB 1633) would impact patients!

We’ve already heard from Senate offices that our calls and emails are making an impact. If you haven’t already done so, please call your state senator’s office and ask them to stand up and support patients. You can find your state senator’s contact information by selecting your town here. If you’ve got a few extra minutes, please send your senator an email as well.

Tips for Calling or Emailing Senators

  • Personalize your message by briefly explaining why you care about this issue.
  • Be sure to mention your city/town so they know you live in their district.
  • Be polite and respectful – legislators do not respond well if they feel they or their staff are being insulted.

Talking Points that You May Find Helpful

  • “I support legalizing cannabis, but I am very concerned about the details of HB 1633.”
  • “This bill seems to be intended to enrich large businesses rather than providing economic opportunities to the people of New Hampshire.”
  • “Patients should be able to purchase cannabis tax-free at any cannabis store in the state.” (The bill currently includes a 15% “franchise fee,” and patients would not be exempted from it.)
  • “Unless it is amended in the Senate, the bill would help ‘Big Marijuana’ and harm the Therapeutic Cannabis Program.”

If you still have time and energy after contacting your senator, feel free to contact your state representative(s) as well. You can find them here.

Also, please share this blog with your friends and encourage them to take action! We expect that the Senate vote will take place Thursday afternoon, May 16.
