At GraniteLeaf Cannabis, we know firsthand how overwhelming medical debt can be. Many of our team members and patients have felt the stress of large medical bills, and we have seen how deeply they can affect individuals, families, and entire communities. For people already living with debilitating or chronic conditions, the financial burden can be especially heavy.
A few years ago, in 2023, GraniteLeaf partnered with an organization called Undue Medical Debt (then known as RIP Medical Debt), donating $10,517 and successfully eliminating $2.2 milliion in outstanding medical debts across northern New England. This campaign resonated with patients and our partners in the community, so we are setting our sights even higher with a new effort to eliminate debt in New Hampshire.
We’re proud to announce another exciting partnership with Undue Medical Debt for 2026. Throughout February and March, the goal of our Community Outreach efforts will be to eliminate as much medical debt as possible in New Hampshire.
How Undue Medical Debt Works
Undue Medical Debt is a national nonprofit dedicated to relieving the burden of medical debt across the United States. Since 2014, they have helped abolish $22.8 billion in medical debt for 14.7 million families nationwide. They do this by purchasing debt portfolios from providers, collection agencies, and debt buyers on the secondary market, often for pennies on the dollar, and then forgiving that debt entirely.
On average, every $1 donated eliminates $100 in medical debt, making even small contributions incredibly powerful. Individuals who benefit from our campaign will receive a letter from Undue Medical Debt informing them that their debt has been eliminated.
Medical Debt in New Hampshire
New Hampshire residents currently carry over $35 million in medical debt, with nearly half of that burden falling on Merrimack and Hillsborough counties. These are our neighbors, our patients, and our communities, and we believe relief should start at home.
Our mission is to eliminate as much medical debt as possible in New Hampshire, beginning with Merrimack County, then proceeding to Hillsborough County, and perhaps expanding to other counties if funds allow.
The Impact We Can Make
Merrimack County
- $1.82 million in medical debt available for purchase
- Only $8,950 needed to eliminate it all
- Impacting 1,315 individuals
Hillsborough County
- $14.68 million in medical debt available for purchase
- $73,000 needed to eliminate it all
- Impacting over 12,230 individuals
These numbers show just how powerful community support can be.

How Our Campaign Will Work
Throughout February and March, GraniteLeaf will:
- Collect cash donations at both dispensary locations
- Match all patient and caregiver donations up to $5,000 to maximize impact
- Seek support from local businesses, organizations, and individuals who are willing to make tax-deductible contributions through our campaign page
All donations will go directly toward purchasing and forgiving debts in New Hampshire through Undue Medical Debt, beginning with Merrimack County. Our initial goal for this campaign will be to raise $20,000, which would eliminate around $2 million in debt for N.H. residents.
